Families needing information and education specifically related to Down syndrome are provided a trained Parent Advocate to address their needs. Families are also connected to other families to develop natural peer support through fun, family-friendly events throughout the year.
Works with Whatcom County businesses to provide employment services to people with disabilities in our community. Services include help with getting and keeping a job, job coaching and on-site support, goal setting and career consulting, resume writing and interviewing skills practice, and empowerment and advocacy.

The Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8) is a rent subsidy program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the Bellingham Housing Authority (BHA). This voucher based program is designed to assist lower income families, disabled individuals, and the elderly to find well-maintained housing in the private market in a location of their choosing, at a price they can afford.

Six hours of continuing education are required to fulfill parental obligations in receiving Medicaid Personal Care funding to care for their family member. Twice a year the Parent Coalition Program conducts trainings tailored to meet the needs of these families. Email [email protected] for more information.
Serves children ages 3 through 5 who have a disability as well as students who do not have a disability (peer models). Students who qualify for Special Education services are enrolled and served as they turn 3 years of age. Children who do not qualify for Special Education services but who are ages 3 to 5 may apply to be enrolled.
Information, referrals, and assistance in obtaining services that support independence, dignity, and health of older adults and people with disabilities. Staff can assist with services including in-home care, Medicaid long term care coverage, caregiver support, long-term care options, and other general resources.

CFI receives referrals from Neuro-Rehab Management to serve veterans who need long-term case management and independent living skills training due to a brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other neurological disorder. Provides community-based services and resources to assist veterans as they seek greater independence in their homes and communities.

Max Higbee Center members are paired with a Community Engagement provider to receive one-on-one support to introduce community resources and create lasting relationships, develop goals and strategies, and learn skills that will facilitate integration into the community. Early childhood preschool programs provide a language-based curriculum to students ages 3-4 who have been identified with developmental delays and qualify for special education services. Programs provide direct, integrated, and/or consultative services to students with mild to moderate disabilities in general education. Contact your school district to apply.

Pediatric Occupational Therapists (OTs) are practitioners who deliver skilled occupational therapy services to children. They help children participate in their daily occupations, or everyday activities including anything from being able to ride the school bus to getting ready for bed at night. Kids in Motion offers both Center-Based or Home-Based care.

In-home services include housework and laundry, bathing and personal hygiene, toileting, eating and/or meal preparation, dressing, body care, transferring, ambulation, self-medication, supervision, shopping essentials, travel to medical services, and more.

Adaptive riding lessons are taught by PATH International certified instructors. Lesson plans take into account the participant's physical, emotional, and mental strengths and limitations. Classes include arena riding, trail rides, and group activities.

Works one-on-one with individuals to provide independent living skills training on various topics. Some examples include organizational and communication skills, budgeting, and learning how to get around the community independently.
Max Higbee Center members are paired with a Recreation Leader to receive one-on-one support to create an individualized, goal-oriented and community-based recreation experience. This service is highly flexible and allows for people to schedule sessions that are tailored and designed based on short-term and long-term goals.

A statewide resource assisting people with disabilities to prepare for, secure, maintain, advance in, or regain employment. DVR serves people who seek meaningful, secure employment but whose disabilities may result in one or more barriers to achieving an employment goal.
Provides monthly payments to adults and children with a disability or blindness who have income and resources below specific financial limits. SSI payments are also made to people age 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial qualifications.
